"If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, and one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needed to the body, what doth it profit

MEET OUR OVERSEER – ELDER ROBERT NGARA OMUNDI

he was born to the proud family of Late James Omundi Nyarigoti of Kisii-Kenya, on the 3rd March 1974.He is the third in the family of 6 children, three brothers and two sisters. His father died when he was in his earlier age and his single mother struggled to bring them from elementary through to high school.

                               PREPARATION FOR MINISTRY

Being born into a Seventh Day Adventist family, After high school, his mother was not able to pay for his college studies. Robert heard of better jobs and good life in the coastal town of Mombasa so he decided to go there and look for greener pastures. In 1996 Robert left his village in Kisii with not enough money for ticket to get him to Mombasa. He was forced to travel for a long distance on foot and without eating. Sometimes he could beg for lifts to get to the next destination. After several weeks of pain and suffering, he found himself in the streets of Mombasa. Tom a stranger to him picked him up off the streets and gave him shelter. Tom who worked as a dealer in one of the Casinos in Mombasa and later trained Robert how to work at the slot machines. Later that year , he got hired as a slots machine attendant and life got better for him. His friend Tom introduced him into drinking and lavish lifestyle. For few months the Casino shut down and he could not get work elsewhere, As a talented artist he started making paintings and selling them to tourists at the beautiful beaches of Mombasa. Business was not good by then so with the little money he saved, Robert sailed to Zanzibar Island where he landed a new job as a hotel resident artist in one of the 5 star beach hotels in Zanzbar. He still continued with his lavish life. One Saturday night, together with his seven workmate friends they left the hotel and traveled to Stone town where they went to disco and drinking, On they way back at 5 a,m. their drunk driver could not control the van and it lost control and hit the coming truck head on, five of his friends died on the spot, Robert and his other friends were rushed to hospital where they spent months recovering. It was while in hospital that God spoke to him, and revealed His purpose for saving him from the wreck.

                                                                  CONVERSION

These turn of events changed his life, he got born again in November 1999, called and prepared for Ministry which is the passion of his life now. His experience became a living commentary of the words of Paul in 2 Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away behold, all things are become new”. He was indeed a new creation. A few months later, he travelled to Pemba-Mozambique went through The Life in the Holy Given International School of Missions now known as the Iris Global School Mission School where he was graciously baptized in the Spirit and where he graduated as a missionary. Immediately, it dawned on him that he will spend the rest of his life helping the poor, widows, orphans and street children sharing experience of new birth and reaching them with the holy gospel of Jesus Christ. This has been the definition of his calling. God had commanded him to “start preparing men for a great harvest in the church.” God gave him an understanding of this vision and the mandate to pursue it leading to the joining of Agape Christian Ministries International.

                                             HIS FAMILY

He met Miss Dorcas Sarange Anyieni in 2007 in the annual youth conference in Kenya. God blessed their marriage with two wonderful children: Macayla daughter and Macktuba the elder son. One cannot ask for a better family for he has the very best of what God can offer a man as a family. Their marriage is celebrating 8 years of sweetness and of going from glory to glory.

                                         IN CONCLUSION

What can we say in all of these; our Overseer is a man blessed by God and his story is akin to the one that the devil does not know what to do with because he just would not give up. Our Overseer’s passion has been to be functionally relevant for the purpose of God as long as he lives and to do his very best to help others do the same. He foresees visions of new possibilities of greater service to God and mankind. According to Richter, an 18th Century German humorist; “Like a morning dream, life becomes brighter and brighter the longer we live and the reason for everything appears clearer. What has puzzled us before seems less mysterious, and the crooked path looks straight as we approach the end.”
